Who Wrote Hebrews?

God has not told us, therefore we do not know the answer to this question, nor do we need to know it. It is a mystery this side of heaven. But the important thing is to have God’s Word—and believe what He actually says. The book of Hebrews itself is one of the strongest witnesses for the doctrine of inspiration—that these are the Spirit’s pure words, without error or mistake. The fact that Hebrews has an anonymous author highlights the importance of the divine—not the human—authorship. That is what makes it God’s Word, not the human person carried by the Spirit. The book of Hebrews is unbothered by the particular human author or source in its Old Testament references—only the Spirit’s words matter. —ed.
