Conservative political, moral, and cultural views do not save, as much as we might find solace in them. Being anti-abortion or anti-homosexuality is not the same as confessing Christ as Lord. The catch-phrase “Judeo-Christian” does show that traditional Judaism and Christianity share in common a lot of history, moral thinking, and general perspectives on the world (largely from the Old Testament Scriptures), but faith alone saves, which some Roman Catholics have long denied and still do. A salvation without Christ is not significantly different than a Messiah-less Judaism, even if it parades under the name of Christianity. –ed.
