Pastor Elder McCants
Do you and I know where we will live forever when we die? Can we be certain that we will be in heaven with Jesus when this life is over? Three days ago someone asked me, “Pastor, tell me how can I know that I am going to heaven when I die?” Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.” When someone gives us a gift, do we say, “That is very nice! How much do we owe you?” No, the right response to a gift is “Thank you.”
How often do Christians even after they have been given the gift of eternal life and forgiveness through Christ’s death and resurrection feel and believe we have to do something to earn favor with God and our way into heaven. Going to heaven is a free gift from God. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we respond with gratitude, praise, and joy. We are 100 percent certain that we become Christians and will be in heaven through God’s unmerited grace, and not the result of any effort, ability, intelligent, or act of service on our part.
Thanksgiving to God for saving us by His grace is shown in helping, caring and serving others with kindness, love, and gentleness to the glory of God and for the good of others. Yes, we are going to be in heaven by grace alone, through the gift of Christian Faith alone, and we know this through Scripture alone. Thank you Lord for saving us. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
