There is a lot propaganda about money and stress. The real diving force is selfishness. To delay the biological imperative makes it easier to continue to do so—no surprise. The stated motive is now often early retirement—to accumulate enough wealth to not work during mostly productive years. The cost of children is mostly fiction—they are a free gift of God. Parents get to choose what they spend on their kids. But the expectations of providing everything materially—for those who do not know the cost and value of Christ’s Gospel—is great and never enough. The inclusion of two men who cannot biologically have a child is telling as well—for them it is a choice. They others are actively choosing not to have a child, but that is the unstated default in our world today. These people have no hope or real purpose except to eat, drink, and be merry before they die. How sad it is. “For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked” (Rev. 3:17).
