Not Just White Meat, Dark Meat, Stuffing and Yams

John Kuhn Bleimaier

It’s an integral component of true Christian living

To ceaselessly observe the holiday of Thanksgiving.

This is not about turkey, cranberry sauce or pumpkin pie

The essence is expressing gratitude to our God on high,

Not just for bountiful harvests and plentiful possessions;

Think: forgiveness for sin and unearned Divine intercessions.

The ultimate gift available to the whole human race

Is salvation based upon faith, available to us by God’s grace.

So, don’t just fold your hands on the last Thursday of November,

God’s munificence is a blessing every day for us to remember.

Thank you without end to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

For offering us eternal life regardless of our individual paltry merit.

To celebrate the holiday, and on any other day, remember the essential way

Is to first bow our heads before the Lord and give profound thanks and pray.
